Jake's computer got fried because we thought we had a surge protector but it really was just a power strip. Every time the ceiling fan came on the surge tried to turn on the computer. Then someone would push the off button quickly. It didn't take long to scramble the thing so badly that even the recovery disk wouldn't work. So Jake took the HD out and I put it into one of my computers as a slave drive and re-fortmatted it. Worked fine ever since.
