Thanks for all those cards and letters. The fire burning in Lakeland Village is across the lake from where we lived, in the general area where the firestorms began that eventually burned through the hills to Laguna Beach a few years ago. It is burning near Mo's house but she's in no danger.
It is an awesome sight to watch the P-3 fire planes fly down the near vertical face of the mountain, release plumes of pink fire retardant, and then pull out like a Phantom jock trying to outrun a heat seeking missile mere feet above the surface of the lake.
But the there but for the grace of God award goes to us. About 15 years ago, we came within 48 hours of closing escrow on this very house on Hollister Street that backed up to that canyon.
Just living right I guess.
