Good Morning Gentle Readers,
At Casa de las Rocas Grandes our holiday decorations are a bit different and include framed cover art from the December 1961 National Geographic. A snapshot of Christmas past if you will.
Coca Cola advertised on the back cover of National Geographic for several decades beginning in the early 1930's through the mid 1960's. Over the years, the gorgeous artwork and quality printing has come to be prized by collectors. For a number of years, garage & estate sale copies of old National Geographic magazines were snapped up like so many hot cakes at the annual Firehouse Pancake Breakfast, just to neatly excise the back covers for the Coke ads. As the old cover art and magazines have slowly disappeared these ads have gained something of a cult status among Cokeheads and those of us who recognize the glimpse into American culture that commercial art and Roadside Americana have to offer.
Tip of the glass to Bobby's Coke Collection, where you can see all the National Geographic cover art.
