Good Morning Gentle Readers,
At Casa de las Rocas Grandes we don't need a hard freeze to decimate our Orange trees, we have vermin to do it for us. Rats, rabbits, squirrels, and various and assorted other despicable, vile, voracious creatures.
Took a break to check frost damage to the citrus this morning only to find our two pathetic Orange trees stripped bare of foliage from ground level to two and a half feet off the ground and every last blossom devoured. That means we'll get our usual two or three Oranges next Christmas.
Makes me wonder how our forebears ever managed to feed a family without Albertsons and Whole Foods to fall back on. Guns, dogs, cats, and a whole lot of back breaking manual labor I guess. How much extra had to be planted to account for what the varmints would eat?
Yours in Frustration.
