Good Morning Gentle Readers,
Was having an animated conversation with a chick I know about this very thing just a couple of days ago. What makes that relevant is she was a bit dubious. Well, here it is babe.
The Border Patrol seized $23,700.00 from a trucker who was held for most of the day, fingerprinted, photographed, and then released without being charged. His money was turned over to the DEA.
How does he get his cash back from the DEA? He has to prove it didn't come from drug running or other illegal activities and it'll take about a year. How, exactly, do you prove a negative?
What'd you learn in High School Civics? Guilty until proved innocent!
This is the reality of our Holy War on Drugs cuz keeping the druggie classes from snorting meth is well worth tossing my children's American birthright onto a funeral pyre torched with the Bill of Rights. And our rulers are frothing because somebody burned a flag?
We once fought a revolution over this kind of crap.
And I'll tell you what else. It ain't often that TWC is on the same side of the barricades as the ACLU.
Whole thing here.
tip of the glass to Radley Balko who asks: Should people who carry large sums of cash just assume that there's a small chance the government will simply steal it from them at gunpoint?
