Good Morning Gentle Readers,
First of all, thanks to all for your concerns about the firestorms. We are in no danger.
In San Simeon yesterday the near perfect October day was marred with smoke from hundreds of miles away. This morning from San Luis Obispo to Ventura, where the 101 swings inland across the San Fernando Valley, the air was thick with windblown smoke and ash from what's left of Malibu.
Here at Casa de las Rocas Grandes, we can clearly see the billowing smoke from Modjeska Canyon on the other side of the ridge. The smoke and ash from the fires in Lake Arrowhead are blowing into the OC and LA, leaving us with clear blue October skies. Until the wind dies back, anyway.
And this eerie shot, borrowed from the LA Times, of the Roller Coaster at Magic Mountain.....
The billowing smoke that the House Blond captured here Sunday afternoon had, within a matter of hours, blown through Newhall Pass like a freight train on greased runners headed downslope to hell where it fed on Santa Clarita.
Oh, and for those of you who don't know jack from breakfast about community, friendship, and helping hands, here's a reminder from Californicate State Senator Dutton (your tax dollars at work)....
And to the people I just want to say.....it’s not over yet; we all need to work together. It’s very important......And there are going to be some people in need of things, so I want people to start thinking about how they can help out individually, join together as a community to help those in need
Hand me a flat-bladed shovel, Mabel, it's gettin' deep over here. [turns and spits]
UPDATE: Just heard former San Diego mayor Roger Hedgecock say that the community has provided so much food to the 28,000 people pitching tents at Quallcomm Stadium that some of it is going stale. All without any nanny crap from Senator Dutton.
