Sunday night and I worked today as if it were mid-week. I'll take a little cheese with that whine. Thankee.
A week or so ago Mrs TWC was in Austin and The House Blond was comfortably ensconced at Hailey's so, I figured it was about time for THAT conversation with the boy. My own father never really talked much about it. Never showed me neither. I taught myself with a little help from a few friends who knew more about it than I did. Not wanting to follow in Dad's footsteps, TWC decided it was better to be right out front and clear about what was going on and all the possible consequences.
We put it into 4WD, and just ahead of the storm motored out into BLM land where the classy folks in this county dump burnt out washers, piles of construction debris, and old engine blocks. A couple of miles further and you're down to dirt bike tracks and poppies. At least this time of year.
Two hours and 100 rounds of what they call quality time. The boy took to his American birthright like a duck to water. A fine American tradition passed on, perhaps for the last generation. Hey, I'm a glass-half-empty kind of guy, whaddya expect?
What? Somebody called Social Services? Boy Howdy, there's a surprise. [turns and spits]
I wasn't paying much attention and all I had was the old Sony digital camera with the terrible resolution. Coulda grabbed the video camera on the way out the door, but din't think of it. You can hear the wind. Storm's coming.
Can't see it? Lousy video here.
UPDATE: Jeff was one of several who commented about the lousy video quality. The original isn't as bad, it's just very small. Something like 160 x 112. When it was converted for upload to YouTube, it automatically enlarged and ended up blurry. If you right-click the video and zoom out, it gets a little bit better.
What? You wanna see the poppies?
UPDATE: This area was completely burned out a couple of years ago in the fire that had us packed and ready to evac the casa.
On the way out of the hills, I let him drive for about a half mile. Keeping it between the ruts. He did better than most of the boat people and half the illegals. It was sort of like an Alan Jackson video. Shoulda seen that grin.
UPDATE: The video embedding has been disabled but the link above will work.
