Speaking of California Girls....
Covers are a dime a dozen. Good covers cost more. But can a great cover be....for charity? Only in America.
The Fendertones is a group of musician friends and family that has been performing together in one form or another since the 60s.
Recently the Fendertones staged a series of benefit shows featuring the music of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. No details were spared to recreate the sounds of the original recordings. Using period correct instruments, the music featured everything from marimbas and accordions to horns and strings...the keyboardist even built what is most likely the only exact replica of Paul Tanner's electro-Theremin that he played on the original “Good Vibrations”...and many of your favorite sci-fi movies!
All of this came together as an incredible show of sight and sound in a tribute to America’s greatest band!
For the record TWC entirely bought into the Beach Boy Myth. I *knew* there was a Girl on the Beach, waiting for me. Except, by the time I got there, Little Surfer Girl, had gone home for lunch. Or was hanging with the cool kids. Or something. I spent a lot of time at the beach, too. Kept missing her.
Such a drag that Carl Wilson cashed his chips in way too young.
Video is here.
One of the better later concert vids here. That's Carl in the beard.
I guess I'd be condemned to the third level of Hades if I don't tip the glass to Bo Diddley who passed this day. Thank the Good Lord there's us old guys to keep the blues alive.
