Good Morning Gentle Readers,
There's been a lot of hand wringing of late with respect to honey bees that seem to have left the building.
They're the little bees that we christened 'H' Bees because of the markings on their backs. You remember stepping on them when they took shelter in the cool damp grass while you danced barefoot in the backyard on hot summer days. Then your Ma would slather the damage with a paste made of baking soda, warm water, and hugs. Once the tears dried the pain would finally relent.
Here's one possible explanation why the H Bees are going bye bye:
No orange trees, no bees.
Abandoned bee hives where orange groves once flourished
Look carefully and you can see the honeycombs and the solitary poppy
Disclaimer: Neither orange trees nor honey bees existed here in the Southland as recently as 1850. Both were introduced by that Plague Upon The Planet we know as (wait for it)......the Human Race.
