Good Morning Gentle Readers,
The kids went back to school on Wednesday. Last year it was economically sensible to have year round school. Now it isn't. Go figure. Stoopid time to start school in my book. The Good Lord ordained that public school should begin the day after Labor Day. Everybody in America knows that's when summer is officially over. Good gravy, even illegals know that.
The net effect of the screwy scheduling prevented moi from tagging along to the Where is the Outrage school choice conference in San Francisco with Mrs TWC. Not to mention that it screws up the whole month of August, vacation-wise.
Mark Twain reportedly observed that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. I'd concur with that. The coldest TWC has ever been was on a murdercycle ride up Highway 1 in August. I thought I was going to die.
But, I digress. Mrs TWC's flight was delayed on account of SFO was socked in with fog. The Intercontinental took pity on her forlorn soul and upgraded her room to an executive suite with a stunning view of the fog, I mean the city. She was an hour late to dinner, but they brought her a plate anyway. It is refreshing, indeed, that sometimes people go out of their way to make your life a little more pleasant.
Contrast that with my crappy ISP. Blackmailing SOB's (please sue me) cut my bandwidth in half and then when I complained they told me I could have it back if I signed a new contract. [turns and spits]
Again with the digression. Am I there to share this largess with mi amor? No. Thank you CNUSD.
And then, oh, yeah, get this: Rob calls for a limo this afternoon and takes a few of these guys to the landmark Top of the Mark, with a menu of 100 different martoonis, at the Mark Hopkins Hotel (which opened in 1926). See what I'm missing?
TWC's consolation is that several friends in attendance expressed varying degrees of sadness that he is unable to join the festivities, which includes a bottomless glass of wine.
