In a clever April Fools Day 1996 prank, Taco Bell bought ads in several major papers, including the New York Times, announcing the purchase of the Liberty Bell. We're just doing our part to help retire the national debt.
The Clinton White House played along and when press secretary Mike McCurry was asked about it he confirmed, adding that the Lincoln Memorial had also been purchased and would hereafter be known as the Ford Lincoln Memorial.
