The focus is red wine and to get right to it without distraction, click The Wine Commonsewer Speaks. The rest of the enchilada is just enough of an
eclectic mix of commentary on culture, food, tax, and econ 101 to
distract from the focus on red wine.

Taken from our campsite, which was a couple of miles across Padre Bay using a telephoto lens. As you might imagine, it is late in the day and the setting sun provides some interesting lighting.
We spent about a week boat camping on Lake Powell (no houseboat). Our boat sleeps four decently. We might have stayed a bit longer but we ran out of wine, water, and food.
Familia, a little Beach Boys, campfire, sunset, and, well, you know......
The wine? I believe that was a Santa Rita Cabernet, but I could be mistaken.
To add a bit of perspective to the enormity of this formation please note that there is a five-foot-square, blue sunshade and four chairs on the beach in the center of the photo.
The sky is gunmetal gray and a storm is brewing behind us. There were some spectacular, three pronged, lightning strikes on our beach moments before this picture was taken (about a mile offshore). Although I set two anchors and staked a hundred foot 1/2 line to hold us to the beach, I kept humming this under my breath as the sky darkened and the wind freshened.
Fortunately, the main body of the storm blew off to the northwest, leaving us with heavy chop, slapping the hull with enough intensity to wake moi several times in the dark of the night.
Ultimately, we ran out of wine (and milk and food) so we had to be done. After sleeping on the boat for five days, a hot shower at the La Quinta Inn in St George (and a bottle of shampoo) seemed like luxury on ice. Turns out I have blond hair. Actually, lighter than it was a week ago.
