Good Morning Gentle Readers,
In theory, we were to be pummeled by El Nino bred storms for most of Christmas week. Instead, we were treated to sunny skies and brisk temps. It made for a lovely Christmas Day and we kept the fire stoked until bed time.
And now? Cold, gale force Santa Ana winds. While most of the south will see temps in the seventies, we may not see 50.
Surely we need the rain, and given that our typical rainy season is just getting under way, it may still come. With a vengeance. It was early 1969 when my girlfriend and her family had to be evacuated by helicopter from their home in Silverado Canyon. The rain arrived as Santa headed north and it didn't stop until April. Mt Baldy, in my picture beneath the cloud, received fifty inches of rain in nine days, which triggered massive mud slides and turned Santiago Creek in Orange County into a river. Careful what you wish for.
As Always,
