Good Morning Gentle Readers,
When KT was born, I worked out how old I'd be on her eighteenth birthday. Don't ask. Let's just say old. Some people my age have grandkids her age.
At the time, it seemed way off in the murky distance somewhere, like when we were kids and made a game of figuring out how old we'd be in the year 2000. And I can't exactly recall how eighteen years have slipped away since The House Blond slipped into this world. Long days. Short years. From Polly Pockets to a graphing calculator in.....I'm tempted to say......the blink of a young girl's eye. But I won't say that, mostly because I've said that before.
She's already well into her first year at Claremont McKenna, one of the top liberal arts schools in the US. She could have gone to UCLA~~or several other UC's~~ on a free ride, but chose CMC for its top drawer faculty, mostly smaller class sizes, and quality of life. It's a good fit for her. Thankfully for mom and dad, CMC has been pretty generous, something she earned with her hard work and determination in HS.
Hard science is her thing. Chemistry and biology. She sees her interests leading to a career in genetics, neuroscience, or possibly medicine. She hasn't yet chosen a major, but her minor is likely to be economics. Her days are filled with chemistry and biology classes and labs, economics, literature, and cross country.
She's my Renaissance Girl, she can do about anything. Except the dishes.
That's us on move-in day in front of the dorms at Claremont McKenna College.
Scholar/Athlete awards.
And you can dress her up.
And she can fly.
Sunset At the Red Sand Beach.
And she can wakeboard.
And snowboard. She's dead (exhausted) in the snow.
Day One.
The first time my son and I shared a meal together was the day his sister came into the world. I'd fetched him from Mo's house so he could meet his new sister, after which we'd gone for grub. Once we settled into the booth, a solemn look crossed his face and he asked if it was Katie's birthday. I responded that it was, and he then said to me:
If it's Katie's birthday, where's her birthday hat at?
As Always
